What the students and parents are saying…
“I like our flexible seating because I tried out all the seats and then I saw which one was best for me. I saw which one helped me learn the best.” -A. P. “I like it because we get to have free movement without running.” - P. K. All of the flexible seating helped me focus. Then, it just distracted me, but we have flexible seating so I was able to switch. – J. W. I like that we get to pick our seats because sometimes I can’t work well next to someone and I get frustrated. When we pick our seats we can choose who we want to sit next to. - K.G. I like that we have options to sit wherever we like. – E. F. “My grandson has a choice of working alone or being in a group.” - Mrs. Vince “Flexible classroom creates the thinking environment for kids where they can be more creative” - Mrs. Baig |
About My CLassroom
What is a Flexible Classroom?
A flexible classroom is a classroom that is set up to be fluid in nature, with many different areas and modes for students to work in. This structure lends itself very well to collaboration and provides a lot of opportunities for student choice and reflection. Different ways to work in my classroom: - Sit at a table with a group - Sit at a desk solo - Stand - Lay on the floor on your stomach or back - Sit on the floor on a cushion, carpet square or nap mat - Use a lap desk or a clipboard - Sit at a low table - Sit on a floor chair - Sit on a kinetic chair - Sit at a low table on knees Other modes we have tried and enjoyed: - Sitting on yoga balls - Sitting in beanbag chairs Ways we add in sensory and movement opportunities: - Exercise bands on desks and chairs to allow sensory input and arm movement - Under table pedal bikes |
